Birth of a Nation

 Birth of a Nation was a ground-breaking movie in terms of cinematic technique, and, as the first great motion picture epic (3 hours long!) it's no great surprise that it was an extraordinarily popular film.  Unfortunately, the film had the unintended consequence of leading to a rebirth of the Ku Klux Klan.
