Barry McGuire: From the Eve of Destruction to Happy Road
Barry McGuire was one of the most popular singers of the 1960's. His version of "Eve of Destruction" was typical of the anger and despair of much of the "younger" generation. He was one of the many people of this period for whom a "born again" experience was life-changing. Listen to Eve of Destruction and Happy Road. My wife and I heard McGuire in concert quite a few times in the 1970's. The version I have here is from a much later concert, but there's still much of the same energy. I still like both songs. Which do you like better? Do these songs give you a better sense of what that "born again" experience was about?
